Guidelines to select a safe and quality Ibogaine treatment center

Many factors go into choosing a safe and quality Ibogaine clinic and Ibogaine treatment center.  Here is a list of questions to ask the provider when doing your research and due diligence.

1.  Most important question to ask if the providers physician is board certified and affiliated with the local hospital and actively working there.  If a client has an issue of concern that needs immediate attention, the physician can move the client to the hospital for observation.  The physician will already have a full medical history on the client and have first hand knowledge and can continue their care at the hospital.  This is a serious safety concern if the clinic does not transfer them to a hospital in an emergency or serious situation.  This is a rare occurrence but needs to be addressed.  Ibogaine treatment is a safe treatment if done with the proper clinical staff but there is always a risk for complications.  A clinic may tell you that they are set up for all emergency situations and will treat the client there, but the best outcome for the client is to be moved to a more controlled environment.  Ibogaine treatment centers need to have all the emergency equipment ( guidelines set by the american heart association) and ACLS staff available which should be used to stabilize the client. The hospital should be within 15 minutes from the clinic.

2.  The Pre clearance process for treatment is very important and needs to be a comprehensive list of blood work, a 12 lead EKG, drug and alcohol screens, a full medical history, and a psychological evaluation.  This is done when the client arrives to the center and goes through the Intake procedure.  Medication stabilization is evaluated and implemented at this time.  Stabilization medications are prescribed by the medical director or the in house physician.  The pre clearance process gives the staff a blue print of the clients health status and prevents complications.  This allows for a safe and effective treatment.  Clients should have already sent a full medical history and medication list on their admission form before arrival to center.

3.  The clinic and provider needs to have a clinical staff which consists of an experience physician, cardiac nurses, and support staff.  Nurses should be ICU or ER nurses that are actively working at the local hospital.  This assures they are experienced, professional, and their skills are current and active.  The equipment, monitors, and supplies for treatment should be up to date with the newest technology and similar to the local hospital.  Equipment and supplies that are old and out dated is not acceptable.  You can ask the clinic or provider if they use the most updated medical equipment and supplies.

4.  It’s important to know the location and your surroundings of the clinic.  Some clinics are located in areas that are not safe and crime is high.  Some clinics once you arrive you do not leave because of location safety concerns.  Its best to ask the provider if they are a lockdown facility.  This means that you do not leave the clinic until discharge.  If this is a concern for you then search for a provider that is not on lockdown and may provide some activities such as yoga and meditation off of the site.  This usually assures the location is a safe, healing, and a therapeutic environment.  Activities are usually optional for the client and not mandatory.

5.  For quality, privacy, and confidentiality clients prefer there own private room for their stay and treatment.  Some clinics will do treatment in one large room with several other clients.  This can be very distracting and compromise the quality of your treatment.  Having your private room for treatment allows for a treatment without interruptions from other clients and less distractions.  Its important that your room is quiet, comfortable, clean, peaceful, and you feel relaxed.  Some providers have aromatherapy for increased relaxation and therapeutic effects.  The best ibogaine clinic will provide this for you.

6.  There is a difference between Ibogaine and Iboga.  If you are seeking a provider for addiction you will need to find a provider that uses only Ibogaine Hydrochloride.  Ibogaine Hydrochloride is extracted by a certified quality lab and provides 99% Ibogaine Hydrochloride.  Ibogaine Hydrochloride is effective and necessary to provide the detox, reset, and rebalance of the neuroreceptor sites in the brain.  Iboga is a combination of several total alkaloids that has a much lower percentage of Ibogaine. Iboga is used more for ceremonial purposes. Make sure the ibogaine treatment center uses ibogaine hydrochloride when seeking help with addiction and other mental health issues such as depression and post traumatic stress disorder.

7.  Ibogaine is very effective in eliminating post acute withdrawal symptoms (PAWS).  Every client is different and some may have complete elimination of PAWS and some may have a small amount of residuals.  Residuals can be treated with boosters and micro doses.  Be aware of Ibogaine treatment clinics  that make guarantees on fixing everything and anything.  This is a red flag.  Ibogaine is effective with addiction, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and new research has found that it helps clients with traumatic brain injury (TBI).  Most clients have a dual diagnosis so Ibogaine helps with this as well which is very beneficial to the client. More research is needed.

8.  When a client has an addiction to a long acting opiate such as Suboxone or Methadone you will need a transition protocol.  This will be a transition to a short acting opiate for 6 to 8 weeks.  The longer the better.  Long acting opiates are lipophilic and are stored in your tissues and fat cells.  It takes time to metabolize them out of your system.  If an Ibogaine treatment center  tells you anything different you will just waste your time, money, and comfort.  The treatment will not work.  Some providers offer a transition protocol and will help you with this process.  This may require an onsite trip to the clinic. You will have to ask the clinic if they provide the transition medication protocol.

9.  For a quality and safe clinic the cost will vary starting at $7,500 and up. There are different programs depending on the clients health history, addiction, and level of care needed.  Most clinics have a 5 Day and 7 Day program. Alcohol detox may be 10 days. Fentanyl detox can take 14 days and is more expensive. Not all Ibogaine treatment centers do a medical alcohol detox before treatment so you will have to ask if they provide this service.  A quality clinic will also help with aftercare for the client.  This is very important and needs to be addressed.  Be cautious if the cost of treatment is less expensive.  They may be cutting cost on quality staff, proper equipment, or quality accommodations.  You do not want to risk your safety, comfort, or your money and have a bad experience.

10.  It’s important to have a good comfort level and a trusting relationship before treatment with the provider.  Don’t jump into it.  During the pre clearance process you should already have a good feeling about the provider and staff.  You are putting your health and safety into their hands.  Be aware if providers talk negative about other clinics.  This is a red flag and not professional.  Usually it’s that provider that is shady or has other motives.  This is a caring compassionate community.  Quality care and safety should be the number one priority of the clinic. The Bahamas is a very safe environment with quality health care to undergo ibogaine treatment.
